Conference Call of the G7 Leaders on the Crisis in the Middle East
October 2, 2024
Following the worsening of the crisis in the Middle East, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, called and chaired an urgent conference call with the other G7 leaders this afternoon.
During the conversation, the leaders reiterated the firm condemnation of Iran’s attack against Israel.
In a constantly changing scenario, it was agreed to work together to foster a decrease in tensions at regional level, starting with application of Resolution 2735 in Gaza and of Resolution 1701 regarding the stabilisation of the Israel-Lebanon border.
Expressing their strong concern over the escalation of the last few hours, it was reaffirmed that a region-wide conflict is not in anyone’s interest and that a diplomatic solution is still possible.
The leaders agreed to keep in close contact.
