G7 Environment Track Outcomes
April 24, 2026
[pdf]
The ministerial meeting of G7 environmental track, gathering G7 members and partner countries, was held on 23–24 April 2026 in Paris, under the French Presidency, with the aim of exchanging views on crucial issues related to environment and on shared priorities for this important year. In doing that, participants have reiterated their determination to deliver concrete, coordinated and transformative action to address these crucial issues, and to contribute to a more stable, secure, and prosperous future for all.
On this occasion, two G7 French presidency initiatives have been launched:
a Nature & People Finance Alliance, which is expected to help coordinate and strengthen financing for nature protection, conservation and restoration, particularly by leveraging increased voluntary private sector and philanthropies engagement;
a Real Estate Resilience for Prosperity Partnership (RER4P), which aims at preventing and reducing exposure and vulnerability to natural hazards through advancing technical synergies within the G7 and beyond, notably through improved exchange on domestic data accessibility, sharing of best practices and solutions, including nature-based solutions.
Furthermore, a set of action-oriented outcomes have been endorsed to place particular emphasis on:
strengthening cooperation on effective Marine Protected Areas (MPA) management, through the establishment of a MPA Management Alliance, to address common challenges related to financing, governance, monitoring and surveillance;
the pledge to further deepen the collaboration in addressing illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, notably by promoting the effective implementation of international frameworks, enhancing transparency, strengthening cooperation and supporting capacity-building efforts, particularly in the most vulnerable regions;
the determination to advance protection and restoration of land and ecosystem as a strategic priority in addressing desertification, land degradation and drought, and to stress the strategic importance of fully recognising the land degradation-security nexus. The aim is to strengthen resilience, enhance food and water security, ensure land tenure security, sustain livelihoods;
the engagement to build on the G7 Water coalition and its workplan, reaffirming the shared determination to conserve, protect, sustainably manage and restore water resources, in particular by detecting and addressing water pollutants and to promoting innovative solutions, including through the organisation of an Innovation Day in 2026.
A discussion was also held on progress in implementing the G7 2030 Nature Compact and on opportunities for further action across the 2026 international environment agenda.
The ongoing work of the G7 Alliance on Resource Efficiency to implement the Toronto Action Plan on Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency has been welcomed, recognising the technical discussion on digital product passport.
