G8 Development Ministers' Meeting

The G8 Development Cooperation Ministers will meet in Windsor, Ontario, on September 26-27, 2002. The event will be hosted by the Honourable Susan Whelan, Canada's Minister for International Cooperation. This is the first time that Development Cooperation Ministers will gather for a fully-dedicated G8 Meeting.

Participants will focus their discussions of international aid issues around three main themes:

building on the momentum for Africa generated at the Kananaskis Summit;
key development cooperation issues facing G8 members and their developing country partners such as aid effectiveness broadly and its impact on education, trade and follow-up to the Johannesburg Summit; and,
how the G8 process can better contribute to development cooperation programs and policies.

The G8 includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Commission. In addition, Kwesi Botchwey, from Columbia University's Centre for Development and Globalization, and Wiseman Nkuhlu, Chairman of the NEPAD Steering Committee, will participate as resource persons in the discussion on Africa.
