BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

DR. RUDIGER DORNBUSCH is the Ford Professor of International Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a position he has held since 1975. He received his degree in Political Science from the University of Geneva in 1966 after which he proceeded to the University of Chicago where he completed his Ph.D, in Economics in 197 1. Throughout his distinguished career as a professor, Dr. Dombusch has held many interesting positions in as many places. From 1972-73 he was at the University of Rochester; 1974-75, the University of Chicago; 1975 to the present, M.I.T., 1979-80 Fundaco Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro.

Dr. Dornbusch is the Associate Editor of the Quarterly Journal of Economics, and the Journal of International Economics; he is Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Brookings Panel on Economic Activity and the SSRC Committee on Growth and Stability. As well, he, serves on the Advisory Committees of International Economics, the Economic Advisory Council and the Boston Company and Economic Advisors, Inc.

As an academic, Dr. Dornbusch has received numerous honours and distinctions including the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, 1979. He is a Fellow of both the Econometric Society, and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

His most recent publications include: Restoring Europe's Prosperity, (with 0. Blanchard and R. Lavard) MIT Press, 1986, and Dollars, Debts and Deficits, MIT Press, 1986.
