From Okinawa 2000 to Genoa 2001

Issue Performance Assessment
Dot Force

Overall Grade: A

At the Okinawa Summit, the G8 committed itself to creating a Digital Opportunities Task Force (DOT Force) based on the Okinawa Charter on Global Information Society to investigate the "digital divide" in the developing world and report its findings and recommendations at the next G8 Summit in Genoa.

At the Genoa Summit, the DOT Force presented its report and issued a nine point Genoa Plan of Action, thus fulfilling the Okinawa mandate.

In the final communique, the G8 endorsed the report of the DOT Force and its Genoa Plan of Action. The G8 stated that it would continue to support the process and expressed a desire to maintain the momentum of the DOT Force. The Genoa Plan of Action will be reviewed at the next Summit in Canada on the basis of a report by the G8 Presidency.
